Memories Help

I forgot my password. How can I reset or recover it?

We can’t recover your data if you forgot your password. Memories uses the highest encryption standards to keep your data safe and this means also that your data is lost when nobody knows your password.

What you can do is try to enter different combinations of your password like upper- and lowercase letters. Memories doesn’t give you a limit how often you can try to re-enter your password, so a little bit of guess-work could help you.

You can also try to reset Memories and start with a blank database. If you want to start from scratch (which means losing all of your previous data), please execute the following steps:

  1. Close Memories. There shouldn’t be any glowing indicator in your Dock under the Memories icon.
  2. Go to the Finder. Enter your user folder. Then go to the folder Library/Application Support/Memories.
  3. Move the file named memories.mmdbe to your desktop.
  4. Go to the Finder. Enter your user folder. Then go to the folder Library/Preferences
  5. Move the file named com.juicycocktail.memories to your desktop.
  6. Restart Memories.

A short note for the future: We recommend using the free Keychain app for storing your sensible passwords or the even better (but not free) 1Password.

How can I attach videos and pictures in Memories entries?

You can just drag & drop videos and pictures from your desktop, the Finder or Safari.

If you want to add a little bit more polish to your entries, the best way to include photos is to use the Export function in iPhoto.

To use the Export function in iPhoto just follow these steps:

  1. Select the photo(s) you want to export.
  2. Go to File in the menu bar, and then Export… (We recommend to set “JPEG” as the Kind and “Small” for the Size).
  3. Click the Export button, save your files and then drag them onto an entry in Memories.
When I add pictures or videos to my Memories entry, they end up being way too big. Is this because my camera has a lot of megapixels? How can I fix it?

Yes, it’s because of the huge megapixel size of your camera. The best way to include photos into your entries in Memories is to use the Export function in iPhoto.

You can also experiment with the image size and choose custom. Depending on your desired size this can produce even better images. Just dragging & dropping images from folders or your desktop also works. You can get better pictures when you touch them up a little bit.

Videos and sounds are similar and you can simply use drag & drop. You can also try to edit your videos in QuickTime before importing them into Memories. The free and integrated QuickTime also allows you to record videos with your integrated iSight camera.
